Mean, median and mode

The mean, median, mode and range of a list of numbers, with the working.

Mean ≈ 5.6667, median 5.5, mode 8

The working

  1. Mean = sum ÷ how many = 4 + 8 + 6 + 5 + 3 + 8 = 34, and 34 ÷ 6 ≈ 5.6667.
  2. In order: 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8.
  3. Median: there are 6 values (even), so it is the average of values 3 and 4: (5 + 6) ÷ 2 = 5.5.
  4. Mode: the most frequent value, appearing 2 times: 8.
  5. Range = largest − smallest = 8 − 3 = 5.
